Shopify vs WooCommerce / Wix / Magento
The honest scoreboard — what you actually get back when you migrate.
| Concern | Shopify | WooCommerce | Wix | Magento 2 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hosting & uptime | 99.99% managed | You manage | Wix hosts | You manage |
| Checkout conversion | Industry-leading | Plugin-dependent | Limited control | Custom build |
| Core Web Vitals | Fast out of the box | Plugin-heavy = slow | Mixed | Heavy, needs work |
| Security patches | Auto, managed | Manual + risky | Managed | Manual + complex |
| App ecosystem | 8,000+ apps, vetted | Plugin chaos | Small marketplace | Extensions costly |
| B2B / Markets | Native (Plus) | Plugin add-ons | Limited | Native (Commerce) |
| Total cost of ownership | Predictable monthly | Lower upfront, costly long-term | Locked-in pricing | High dev + license |
Built on Shopify's real APIs — not screen-scrapers
Every migration we run uses the official Shopify Admin GraphQL API with idempotent batches, cost-aware throttling, and per-entity content hashing. If anything fails, we retry just that record — never the whole catalog.
-
▶
Shopify Admin GraphQL — Bulk operations, no REST polling, no rate-limit surprises
-
▶
Idempotent writes — (source_id, target_id, hash) per entity — re-runs skip unchanged items
-
▶
Image staging via S3 — Public URLs guaranteed for stagedUploadsCreate
-
▶
Metafield definitions — Created first, then mapped — your theme + apps keep working
-
▶
URL Redirect API — 301 map pushed via urlRedirectCreate — every old URL preserved
-
▶
Order transactions — Financial status + transactions array preserved, not faked

What founders say after going live
"Migrated 8,400 products and three years of orders from WooCommerce to Shopify Plus over a weekend. Zero data issues, zero SEO drop."
"Our Magento 2 store had years of customisation. They mapped every attribute, kept the URL structure, and our organic traffic actually went up post-migration."
"I was dreading the Wix → Shopify move. They rebuilt the theme on Dawn and the storefront looks better than the original. Quote was honest and final."
Common questions about Shopify migration
How long does a Shopify migration take?
Most catalogs of 1–5k SKUs are live on Shopify within 2–3 weeks including a theme rebuild. The data transfer itself runs in hours; the longer tail is theme rebuild, app reselection, payment provider testing, and QA on a staging Shopify dev store before launch. Stores with 10k+ SKUs, B2B complexity, or heavy customisation typically take 4–6 weeks.
Will we lose SEO rankings when migrating to Shopify?
Not if it is done properly. We generate a complete 301 redirect map (old URL → new Shopify URL) for every product, collection, page, and blog post, then push it to Shopify URL Redirects via the urlRedirectCreate mutation. Schema markup, meta titles, descriptions, and canonicals are carried over. We monitor Google Search Console coverage for 30 days post-launch and fix anything that drops.
Can you migrate orders and customers, not just products?
Yes. Historical orders with line items and statuses, customers with addresses and marketing-consent flags, default discount codes, gift cards (where supported), and 301 redirects are part of every migration package. We preserve order numbers as tags + notes so your customer-service team can look up old orders.
Do you handle the theme rebuild too?
Yes. We rebuild your storefront on Shopify (typically on a Dawn-based theme or your chosen premium theme) to match or improve your existing design, and harden it for Core Web Vitals. Theme editor remains intact so your marketing team can build pages without touching code.
How does the self-serve Migration Tool differ from the done-for-you service?
The tool is best for WooCommerce stores where you want to drive the migration yourself with a free demo first. The done-for-you service includes theme rebuild, manual QA, app reselection, payment + tax + shipping configuration, launch planning, and 30-day post-launch support — none of which the tool covers.
What does a Shopify migration cost?
Fixed-price quotes typically range from $1,500 (small WooCommerce store, ~500 products, basic theme) to $25,000+ (Magento Plus-tier B2B with multi-store, full theme rebuild, app rewrites). The biggest cost drivers are product count, custom fields, B2B requirements, and theme complexity. You get a written quote within 24 hours of sending us your store URL.
Will my store go down during the migration?
No. Migration runs into a fresh Shopify dev store while your live store stays open. DNS swap is the last 30-minute step and we time it for a low-traffic window. Customers see zero downtime; 301 redirects keep any old bookmarked URLs working from day one.
Do you work with Shopify Plus?
Yes — including B2B, Markets, Shopify Functions, custom apps, and Plus-only checkout extensions. Most of our recent large migrations have landed on Plus, especially for B2B catalogs and multi-currency / multi-region rollouts.
Where are you based, and what time zones do you cover?
Based in Ahmedabad, India (IST / UTC+5:30). We overlap with US, UK, EU, AU and Asia working hours for live calls. Most communication is asynchronous via email + Slack/Linear, with weekly progress reports during active migration projects.
Can you help if my migration is already mid-way and stuck?
Yes — this is one of our most common engagements. Pause whatever is broken, send us the source + destination details and we audit what has been migrated, what is missing, what is broken. You get a recovery plan within 48 hours.
